Northern Women in Chanel

In addition to fashion shows aplenty, during the dates of the Copenhagen Fashion Week many other more or less fashion related events are held all over the city. One of the more exciting in this category is the opening of a brand new photography exhibition entitled Northern Women In Chanel.

Northern Women in Chanel

On day one of the Copenhagen Fashion Week – more precisely on February 1 – Northern Women In Chanel will be introduced at Design Museum Denmark with a party for a select elite, in vintage fashion V.I.P.-style. The exhibition will feature 50 large prints and 25 black/white portraits of some of the most beautiful Scandinavian and Baltic women, including an array of contemporary in-demand models such as Freja Beha Erichsen, Frida Gustavsson, and Sigrid Ågren, while former supermodels such as Helena Christensen and Louise Pedersen are also featured in the series.

Honing the outstanding designs of Chanel’s legendary creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, the photographer duo of Peter Farago and Ingela Klemetz Farago immortalizes the beautiful women with an artistic approach that reaches beyond fashion, and offers the fashion crazy crowds a chance to see Chanel garments and accessories in a superbly stylized and aesthetically stunning fashion. Both previous prêt-à-porter and haute couture collections from the famous fashion house are represented in the exhibition that merges the fashion scene with the art world in a very convincing manner.

A rather exquisite book containing all images from the exhibition also accompanies the touring expo, and to pamper our conscience a bit, for each book sold, parts of the proceeds will be donated to the charity organization Save the Children. The book features a foreword written by none other than Mr. Karl Lagerfeld himself, in which he pays tribute to the beauty of the Northern woman. Also, in connection with the display at the Design Museum Denmark, an exclusive series of intimate black/white portraits of the models have been added to the exhibition. These photos can too be found in a limited edition book, which is numbered by hand, and signed by the photographers, and will be sold as a collectors item package deal, including the original Northern Women in Chanel-book, presented in luxurious style invelvet casing.

The reviews the exhibition has picked up on its tour have been flattering to say the least, with recognized Danish newspaper Weekendavisen, stating that “Peter and Ingela has spent the last year to create an artistic symbiosis between Lagerfeld creations and their own remarkably unconventional ideas”, while TV4 simplystated: “This is art!”.

The exhibition is most certainly a definite must for any fans of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, or simply fashion lovers altogether, but with the high aesthetic level of the works, and the artistic quality it possesses, there are no predefined requirements that you have to be a fashion fanatic to enjoy the exhibition.
