URBAN BLOSSOMING: NATURE POPS-UP IN THE CITY

This spring is all about sylvan style, with floral-themed fusions around every corner.

URBAN BLOSSOMING: NATURE POPS-UP IN THE CITY

As the pollen count rises and the sunshiney season begins in earnest, flowers take centre stage, smoothing rough urban edges and bringing colour and beauty to shopping malls, fashion markets and showrooms.

Phyllis - Temporary Plant Thing, Stuttgart

The title’s ironic lack of imagination is by no means a reflection of the content in this unique and inspiring installation. Conceptual designer Miriam Köpf showcases fresh perspectives on indoor plants with a temporary, multifaceted project in Stuttgart. Beginning in April, the residency features a theme each month through July: cactus, orchid, fern and begonia. Visitors can get ideas, shop for flora and enjoy the creative atmosphere.

Mint&Berry Flower Market, Hamburg

Purveyors of flowing feminine fashion  Mint&Berry are hosting a popup flower market featuring artistic floral arrangements and DIY workshops, as well as music and food. The workshops are led by local florists and artisans and offer the opportunity for visitors to learn some new skills, plus, once in the summery mood, there’s a boutique for shopping the brand’s latest collection.

Rebecca Louise Law at Bikini Berlin

Always at the avant garde, Berlin’s shopping mall with integrity kicked off SS16 with an installation by London-based artist Rebecca Louise Law, who specialises in working with natural materials. Inside the Bikini building, a huge, polychromatic rectangle of flowers is suspended from the ceiling. Precipitative petals dangle enticingly above shoppers’ heads, evoking the feeling of floral rain and creating a rural ambiance within this very urban space.
