URBAN INSPIRATION WITH HORIZN: OUR COVETED GUIDEBOOK RETURNS

Designer travel accessories for the digital nomad: Horizn is luggage with a difference. The brand makes beautiful and high-quality bags that come with their own virtual Travel Assistant, as well as a bespoke pocket for a lightweight Smart Charger to power devices on the go. We chatted to the founders about their top tips for summer in the capital. If this has whet your appetite, pick up a copy of Berlin Inspires and take a deep dive into Europe’s most sought-after city.

Jan Roosen and Stefan Holwe are the Foundersof HoriznStudios, which launched in 2015 as an online store and physical shop in Berlin’s Mitte. Tech, design and travel geeks, the duo developed the concept of smart luggage and high-quality travel accessories that use integrated technology to make travel smoother and even more exhilarating. Each bag has a pocket for a lightweight Smart Charger to power devices on the go.

You travel a lot. What do you look forward when you’re back in Berlin?

As long as TXL airport still exists – coming in to land in the middle of Berlin, when home is in sight. In summer there’s nothing more beautiful than enjoying the sun on the banks of the canal with friends and family.

Your favorite place for lunch on a stressful day?

In summer, the Chipperfield Kantine’s lovely inner courtyard is great. We are often in Soho House because it’s a good place to combine lunch and meetings. We also highly recommend the restaurant at the Michelberger Hotel.

Apart from your office, where’s your favorite place to work?

It’s easy to work just about everywhere with ear plugs, but we mostly end up in Soho House or the smaller outpost of the St. Oberholz on Zehdenicker Straße, where you can work outdoors in summer without being disturbed.

What’s a great Saturday night for you?

As und owner with friends on the steps in front of the Volksbühne, then dinner at Crackers or Pappa e Ciccia. Later off to the Marina in the Spreestudios area or drinks at Bar 3 or Klunkerkranich.

Your hottest insider tip for summer?

Panama serves the best octopus in the city. You can cool off afterwards at the Boros Bunker and then in the evening go on to a jazz concert in the garden of Haus Bethanien on Mariannenplatz. Feel like getting out of the city? Go for a swim in Gorinsee Lake in Wandlitz and then drop by James Biergarten in Panketal.
