Carlo e Camilla in Segheria

Set in a former sawmill dating back to the 1930s, Carlo e Camilla takes the industrial chic vibe to a whole new level. The restaurant’s peeling concrete walls contrast starkly with the opulent chandeliers that dangle dramatically over a huge cross-shaped communal table. Brainchild of three local legends, Carlo Cracco, Tanja Solci and Nicola Fanti, the project was destined for success from the start. Cracco is a famous culinary artist and Master Chef Italia judge, who earned Michelin-starred acclaim with his previous restaurant. Solci, who owns the building, is responsible for the overall art direction and won the venue Best New Restaurant at the 2015 Wallpaper* Design Awards. Fanti brings vast business experience from the restaurant world. Together, they’ve created something truly unique in Carlo e Camilla. And this place has substance as well as style. The food has been widely praised and the wine list features just one craft winery per month, giving small producers a rare and welcome platform.

California Bakery

Italy may have exported its food culture worldwide, but America arguably honed it into something unique to the States. Founded by Marco D'Arrigo and his US-born wife Caroline, California Bakery brings an authentic slice of American food traditions to the heart of Milan. Using high-quality, often organic ingredients, the team serves up fresh, homemade meals from traditional recipes. Italians aren’t big on breakfast, so those who like to start their day with a piled plate should head straight here. From toasted bagels to home-baked brioche, from pancake towers to English scones, the breakfast menu bulges with options. Likewise for brunch, lunch and dinner, there’s a hearty mix of American meals, many embellished with local Italian ingredients.  Their Cooking Lab plays host to regular lessons that help participants master the art of bread baking, cake making and - of course - burger building.
