PARMA & CO
Parma & Co is a mix between a restaurant and a shop: you can eat inhouse but also buy all the same things to go: in Italy we would call it a salumeria, that is to say a shop where you can buy chese and cold meats. But, actually, Parma&co is much more than this.
Before reading this article you have to know that Parma is an italian city in Emilia Romagna. It is a small jewel town (really worth visiting) and pretty famous throughout Italy for its culinary tradition, that many venues try to imitiate, but only few succeed in succesfully doing it. The idea of Parma & Co comes from two people original from Parma; everything started from the place they chose for their restaurant, a sunny corner in one of the coolest streets in Milan, full of pretty venues, peculiar shops and very busy but in a pleasant way.
The internal are rural-chic with white and orange stripes inspired by the old cheese towers; they have found an old marble butcher’s counter from the late ‘800 in the cellar, and reclaimed an original green Berkel cutter. Moreover, they have met personally all the producers. The result is really tempting: hot fried cake served with every dish, a careful selection of salumi such as seasoned pork shoulder or wild black pork ham, and delicious rarity such as parmesan cheese of brown cows, tortelli and cappelletti. Each day of the week, then, there is a fixed hot dish, roasted fennel on Monday, cotechino on Tuesday, and so on till Sunday. Home made desserts and local wines (I’d suggest Lambrusco or Malvasia) complete the meal. But, beware!, this isn’t a real restaurant and it closes at 9 pm.
